Geese, like all waterfowl, have an oil gland to help them stay "waterproof". That gland doesn't start working until the goslings have been exposed to water. Until then, the goslings are subject to getting wet, chilled, and possibly drowning as the water is caught in the feathers. So a short exposure trip is necessary. That happened this morning.
