Pregnant Giraffe Training: Blood Draws 101 and We Got To Help!! The Race is on for Giraffe Baby 200 at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. They have not one but TWO pregnant giraffes, Muziki and Laikipia. Both having mated within the same week early last year. So who will go into labor first near the end of April 2018? We dont know... But we now know how they train their expectant mothers for upcoming blood draws! We wandered into the exhibit just in time to be asked to help provide a distraction for the other females that weren't in need of this training. Tim was happy to oblige in feeding so many handfuls of romaine lettuce and rye cracker treats to the single ladies while I watched zoo staffers use targets, clickers, needless syringes along with touch of hand to guide the soon-to-be new mothers and get them used to the upcoming procedures.
