“Ye have said, it is vain to serve God…”

The prophet Jeremiah grappled with the issue when he asked the Lord:

Jeremiah 12:1-4 “Righteous art thou, O Lord, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

Job struggled similarly, as did the prophets Asaph (Psalm 73), Malachi (3:14-15), and Habakkuk (1:13-17). Have you ever wondered privately why bad things happen to good people and the wicked seem not to have a care in the world?
