Morning Meditation with Traditional Dizi Flute Including Ambient Sound of Birds

The Dizi, a traditional Chinese flute, isn't your average instrument. Unlike most flutes, the dizi has an extra hole with a thin membrane vibrating reed attached. This membrane, called a dimo, is like the dizi's vocal cords, creating its signature buzzing sound. Traditionally, the dimo was made from rice paper, but today it's more commonly made from reed.

21 Minute Morning Meditation

This guided meditation uses the calming sounds of a traditional Chinese dizi flute and the joy of morning birdsong to gently guide you into a positive and energized state for the day ahead.

Preparation (2 minutes):
Find a comfortable position, either seated or lying down. If seated, ensure your back is straight but not rigid. Close your eyes softly, or soften your gaze if keeping them closed feels uncomfortable. Take a few slow, deep breaths through your nose, feeling your belly rise and fall with each inhale and exhale.

Setting the intention (2 minutes):
As you listen to the calming melody of the dizi flute, imagine a warm light filling your entire being. This light represents your positive intention for the day. Silently set an intention for the day. It could be to approach challenges with optimism, to radiate kindness, or to simply experience joy in the present moment.

Journey with the Dizi (10 minutes):
Allow the gentle sounds of the dizi flute to wash over you. Imagine the music weaving through your body, dissolving any tension or negativity.
As the birdsong joins the melody, visualize yourself in a beautiful natural setting. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, the gentle breeze through your hair, and the vibrant colors around you. With each inhale, breathe in the positive energy of the music and your chosen intention. With each exhale, release any worries or negativity.

Gratitude and Embodiment (5 minutes):
As the music softens, take a moment to appreciate the positive energy you've cultivated within yourself. Silently thank yourself for taking this time for your well-being. Bring your awareness to your body. Wiggle your fingers and toes, gently stretch, and feel the positive energy radiating from within.

Emerging with Positivity (2 minutes):
Take a few final deep breaths, inhaling positivity and exhaling any remaining tension. When you're ready, gently open your eyes and take a moment to center yourself. Carry the positive energy and intention you cultivated throughout your day.
