Trying a new Protein Bar for Dessert 🍨

For years now my choice of desert has been a protein bar. It checks a lot of boxes outside of pure indulgence.
-
It’s more protein (20g) with a complete amino acid profile.
-
It’s another 25 or so grams of carbs to load up with for training in the morning.

It satisfies my version of everyone’s hardwired, “food is a recreational drug” reward mechanism along with dinner’s bbq sauce. Also, since that reward mechanism IS graded, it’s not SO good that I even want more than one.

Most importantly, it’s sustainable. I’d sometimes eat a whole box of these a night in Afghanistan when, for obvious reasons my caloric requirements were MUCH higher and I’d come back from “Rob Missions” absolutely starving.

Even now, an extra 180Kcal of what’s essentially a MEAL (Protein + other) is a drop in the bucket with my lean mass and insulin sensitivity.

It’s all about sustainability folks. I eat mostly real food, meat and veggies but some small concessions to individual psychology are ok and even necessary if you’re checking all the other boxes of structured training, sleep/stress management & nutrition/hydration.

Video on the Pros & Cons (there’s definitely both) of processed food substitutions like bars for cookies in this case, or cauliflower pizza or protein pancakes. We all have those one or 2 food items that are nigh non-negotiable 😂
