"German Man Vaccinated 217 Times Against Covid: What Happened Next?"

In a bizarre case documented in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal, a 62-year-old man from Germany has been vaccinated against Covid a staggering 217 times, against medical advice. The shots were bought and given privately over the course of 29 months, with no apparent ill effects reported by researchers from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Dr Kilian Schober, from the university's microbiology department, shared that they learned about the man's case through newspaper articles and invited him to undergo various tests in Erlangen. Despite the unusual number of vaccinations, the man seems to have no adverse effects on his health.

The researchers stressed that hyper-vaccination is not endorsed as a strategy to enhance adaptive immunity, and current research suggests that a three-dose vaccination, along with regular top-ups for vulnerable groups, remains the favoured approach.

While Covid vaccines cannot cause infection, they can help the body learn how to fight the disease. Messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines work by showing the body's cells genetic code from the virus, teaching the immune system how to respond to Covid.

The NHS advises that Covid vaccines may have side effects, such as a sore arm from the injection. Some people with weakened immune systems may require additional protection, and the NHS will reach out to those who may be eligible.
