Just after receiving her third COVID shot, Kayla lost the use of her legs and fell to the round. Initially, her condition subsided but she made an appointment to see her doctor for a referred to the neurologist. Before she had time to attend any medical appointments, she woke up paralyzed from the neck down and had trouble breathing. She was eventually diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis. Since receiving her diagnosis, Kayla has been offered MAiD several times.

After hearing of her story, Drew started Op: KAYLA, to offer support and to help raise money for Kayla's accessibility needs. After raising enough money to fund an electric wheelchair, fundraising moved to Phase 2 - to purchase a wheelchair accessible van. Kayla's GiveSendGo now sits at over $87K. She is now suing Moderna.

In Kayla's own words, "I prayed a few weeks ago that God would send me someone and he literally sent me an army."
