We all love a nice, juicy and tender cut of meat. The way it smells as it sizzles on the grill, the fat that drips off it and they char that makes it taste divine on the plate. We love it when our food tastes as delicious as it looks, but around the world, there are foods that definitely smell as good as they look - foul!

Number 10 is Narezushi, considered to be the original sushi. Originated in Asia in the 1st century, Narezushi is fish packed in salt and left to ferment for 6 months, leaving smelling like the deepest, darkest corners of the NYC sewer. Yum!

Next up is Kæstur hákarl, an Icelandic national dish. Its literal translation means “rotten shark”. Bon appetit!

We see your ammonia-smelling delicacy and we raise you a Kiviak, a recipe that calls for up to 500 small birds left to ferment for three months in a seal carcass. It is quite the delicacy in Greenland and it is usually eaten outside, to prevent your home smelling like the fiery pits of hell!

Another delicious dish is Stockfish, coming at us from yet another Nordic country. In Norway, they dry whitefish in the brisk northern air, hanging from wooden racks. A bacteria that has adapted to the Norwegian cold matures the fish, a process similar to that of maturing cheese.

Enough of the Nordics, how about we see what the Koreans like to eat. They have a dish called hongeo-hoe, skate fish that has been fermented in its own uric acid. Do we need to tell what that is?

Number five is the elusive century egg, that is usually a duck egg preserved in ash, clay, salt, quicklime, and rice for several months. The resulting dish is a black-brown egg that gives out a pungent odor of what else that rotten egg.

We lost our appetite for the day with only half of this list, but if your taste buds are tingling, make sure to watch the rest of this stinky list. Ew!

Have you had the chance to try any of these dishes? What is the awful thing you have tasted in your life? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below!
