"Lu" the famous "actor" hippo at the Homossasa Springs State Park

Homossasa Springs, Florida and "Lu" the Hippo. The 63-year-old bull hippopotamus has lived at the park for almost his entire life. Born in San Diego in 1960, Lu starred in Hollywood films, including “Cowboy in Africa” 1967 with Chuck Connors. Lu also was an "actor" in “Daktari” and the TV shows “Art Linkletter Show” and the “Herb Alpert Special.” Lu was relocated to Homosassa Springs to join the Ivan Tors Animal Actors. After nearly two decades of starring in movies and television specials, Lu suddenly faced eviction from his beloved home. I hesitate to say his full name of Lucifer as it is sick that some idiot would give him that name. Fortunately, most people just know him as Lu.
