In 2023, "Next Goal Wins," a sports comedy-drama film, hit the screens, helmed by director Taika Waititi, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Iain Morris. Drawing inspiration from the 2014 documentary of the same name by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison, the movie chronicles the journey of Dutch-American coach Thomas Rongen as he strives to elevate the American Samoa national football team, known as one of the weakest in the soccer realm, to the heights of qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Michael Fassbender takes on the role of Rongen, leading a cast that includes Oscar Kightley, Kaimana, David Fane, Rachel House, Beulah Koale, Will Arnett, and Elisabeth Moss.
