Post-Conditioning Pressing

I started with incline dumbbell press as I usually do but decided to test drive the connective tissues resilience a bit. After many months of stimulating and allowing for repair, I think it’s time.

I played with these once last month but it looks like I’m back to the 70s being a safe working weight with a deep stretch and full control. I’m super happy about this as it’s been a long road to recovery.

I’ll hang out here for the next several months to let the tissues adjust to the 50% increase in load stress from my previously established “safety standard” of the 55s.

Having done my incline dumbbells heavier and in a lower rep range, I feel compelled to follow with Louie’s for some volume. I make sure to do these wide as that’s been key to my rehabilitation. I try to move fast with an explosive concentric but with the intent to keep it in the muscle. Simply put, “stretch the tissue, fill it with blood.” Rinse. Repeat.

My chest is pretty cooked so last, to supplement my pressing I do some tricep work with close grip overhead cable extensions with the EZ-Curl attachment. I chose an overhead movement to prioritize the long head of the tricep as well as to emphasize the stretch position with a slow eccentric to keep it in the muscle.

Don’t lift too heavy and hurt yourself but loading absolutely matters. When you hit that sweet spot of sufficiently heavy weight that you can still control for reps, it’s that feeling Arnold talks about I Pumping Iron. That little 15 set session has my upper body ready to pop outta the skin! Time to put some food in it! 💪🏿
