Suite Bergamasque was composed around 1890. It was then revised and published in 1905. The title is derived from the city of Bergamo in the Italian Alps and serves as a tribute to French Baroque harpsichordists. It is comprised of 4 movements: Prélude, Menuet, Clair de lune, and Passepied.

This festive prelude (Mvt. 1) offers a noble opening movement for this very famous suite.

It is scored by Richard Byrnes for Symphonic Band : (Picc, 3Fl, 2Ob, 2Bn, Cbn, 4Cl, 2BCl, 2ASx, TSx, BiSx, 4Hn, 4Cnt, 4Trom, 2Eu, 2Tu, Cb, Timp, Bells, Hp, Celesta)
