Man shot by cops in his apartment after cops responded to a 911 call of Burglary in-progress

On February 1, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers with the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to an apartment in the 5100 block of Suitland Road in Suitland after receiving a 911 call from a resident for a report of a breaking and entering in-progress at their home. Upon arriving on scene, one officer entered the residence where he encountered an adult man and began giving him commands. During the encounter, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking the man. The man was pronounced dead on scene. No officers were injured. Two handguns were recovered from the scene near the man. Preliminarily, the IID has identified the decedent as a resident of the home. The decedent was not the original 911 caller.
