The US Supreme Court has ruled unanimously that Donald Trump cannot be removed from state ballots in the 2024 election, despite a clause in the Constitution that bars insurrectionists from returning to office.1 The majority opinion commanded only five votes, but on the fundamental question of whether Trump could be removed from Colorado's ballot, the court ruled 9-0, with four justices signing on to opinions that concurred in the result.0 The decision clears the way for the former president to appear on the ballot in all 50 states. However, there was disagreement over whether the majority opinion protected insurrectionists in the future.
