Smashed Atoms in New York Unleash Monster Magnetic Field

Three days ago, a new study conducted by the Brookhaven National Laboratory using the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider in Upton, New York, as part of the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) experiment, recorded a "super strong" magnetic field within a quark-gluon plasma. This plasma was formed after an off-center collision of heavy atomic nuclei.
