The Reward of Alternative Forgone

Alternative forgone is an economics term that describe alternate course of action the effect of which remains unknown because available scarce resource has been invested on a primary but difference course.

Usually, the course of action chosen is based on rational thinking of the consumer subject to available resource. The man in Christ must view matters differently though. For the Bible says there is a way that seem right to a man but the end of it is death.

Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

There is a limit to the ability of our mind outside God. Our logical minds cannot take us to eternal destination. This lesson explores the contrast of life under God's direction and outside Him, that the man in Christ must keep God in the primary place rather than the alternative forgone.

1. Only the Lord knows eternal outcomes.
Matthew 7:13-14 -
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

2. Only the Lord knows the way of prosperity.
Genesis 26:1-6
And there was a famine in the land , beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. And Isaac dwelt in Gerar;

Genesis 26:12-15
Then Isaac sowed in that land , and received in the same year an hundredfold: : and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great , and went forward , and grew until he became very great : For he had possession of flocks , and possession of herds , and great store of servants : and the Philistines envied him. For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father , the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

3. Safety is of the Lord
Proverbs 18:10
The name of the LORD is a strong tower : the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

4. Relationships
Nehemiah 13:26
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God , and God made him king over all Israel : nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
