MOHYELDIN: “Let me ask you, Melissa, about Nikki Haley for a moment. She spoke with the media after her rally in North Carolina saying she has a movement of supporters behind her. I don’t know where that is, but she certainly believes it. Watch this.”
[Clip starts]
Haley: “This is a movement and to have incumbents like Donald Trump not getting 40% in the early states, to have an incumbent like Donald Trump where his campaign in Michigan years, I campaigned in two days and got 30%. There is a movement here. And if you see, this is not an angry crowd. This is a patriotic crowd. This is a crowd that wants an America their kids can be proud of.”
[Clip ends]
MOHYELDIN: “I certainly want to believe that there are Republicans in this country who do not subscribe to Donald Trump, and yes that is to some extent true. But is what Nikki Haley is describing there accurate? Does she have a point or is that wishful, political thinking on her part?”
MURRAY: “The optics aren’t great for her. She’s gesturing to what appears to be a crowd of no one. I will say that Nikki Haley if she’s gesturing off-screen, she’s something that we all know. Donald Trump is currently indicted on four different criminal indictments with 91 charges in total. Those 91 charges made clear that something is going on that is likely criminal before, during, and after his presidency. At all stages of his life as a public official, he has been charged with doing crimes during this. I think what Nikki Haley is hoping for here is that the effect of these indictments, these criminal trials, if they happen will begin sort of chip away at Donald Trump’s lead. She’s been dealt a huge blow, we all were the week when the Supreme Court declined to immediately deal with the question of immunity in that D.C. election interference case that Jack Smith has brought in the D.C. district court. But she’s holding on in the hopes that something will happen, that there will be some kind of accountability. And if there is, she’ll be the last candidate standing.”
