Is NATO lurching into a nuclear war against Russia, or was French President Emmanuel Macron just trying to show off his demand for NATO ground troops in Ukraine? NATO states such as the USA, Great Britain and Germany reacted with alarm and contradicted Macron. Russia, on the other hand, makes it clear: NATO units in Ukraine are the last "red line" before nuclear war. Former US intelligence analyst and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter questions: "Does the average French citizen understand that Macron is gambling with his life? Do the Germans understand that?" Because a war against Russia not only means the downfall of NATO, but also "the destruction of all of Europe."
However, this scenario is by no means in Moscow's interest - on the contrary: the war in Ukraine is working in Russia's favor. Ritter interprets the current developments in Transnistria: "The fate of Odessa has already been decided. Odessa will be taken and there will be a land bridge that connects Transnistria with the rest of Russia." And the West? "The bottom line is that the West can do nothing if Russia wants to take Odessa."
We also spoke with Scott Ritter about the political orientation of the US military, which now calls Russia an "enemy", about the influence of the military-industrial complex on the direction of US foreign policy, as well as about the possibility for Germany to leave NATO and to leave the EU. Ritter gets to the point: "If you withdrew from NATO and kicked the USA out, people would be angry with you. But what could they do? [...] You are Germany. Without you there is no EU. Without you "There is no euro. So Germany has a lot more power than you might think. But Germany has to grow up and behave like it."
