A man only knows condemnation by the law. When there is no law sin is not imputed. And there can be no transgression.
So while you may have a sense of remorse for something you may have done. This stems from norms and values learned from your culture.
And since in this dispensation the law has passed away condemnation can only come from one place. The accuser the devil. Or others that are wittingly or unwittingly doing his work for him.
