Ever since the fall of Avdiivka or Avdeevka on 17th February 2024, US officials and experts have predicted that Ukraine's ammunition and air defence shortages would reach a dire point toward the end of March 2024. 5 days later, Newsweek reported that Russia was advancing along the entire front line in Donetsk as well as in Zaporizhia and were making gains. By February 28th Russia had captured several key villages such as Stepove, Latsochkyne, Tonenke and Sjeverne near Avdiivka as well as Ivaniske near Bakhmut. Further advances were reported in the Kreminna area of the frontline. Most notably, is the fact that the Russian armed forces entered Robotyne in the zaporizhia region and isarereversing Ukraine's hard won gains in their failed summer 2023 counteroffensive. This is leading to panic in Ukraine and low morale as the predictions and news coming from its western backers and legacy media is increasingly grim. Now new aid packages from the US has passed the House of Representatives and these realities has led many experts to warn that Ukraine could see major loss of territory by end of March. Despite all this, Zelensky continues in his delusions of total territorial Ukrainian victory. Even Michael Kofman from the podcast War on the Rocks has warned that Ukraine has not build any sufficient secondary line of defence in the Donetsk region. A report card of the war from Russia Matters.org says that Russia gained 46 square miles in February 2024 while Ukraine gained only 1. Might we see a repeat of history with the Ides of March where the Roman Republic saw the beginning of the final chapter of their crisis when Julius Caesar was assassinated by 60 conspirators who stabbed him in the back in the senate room. Might the 31 conspirators of NATO betray Zelensky or Ukraine in March, whether it be literally or metaphorically? Whatever the outcome, things look very grim for Ukraine and their military prospects.
