For a long time, the Amex Platinum Card has been among the heaviest metal credit cards you could get. But now, other credit card issuers are stepping up their game with more premium credit card offerings, including Capital One (Venture X) and Bank of America (Premium Rewards Elite).

Now, it’s Chase’s turn! They recently updated the Chase Sapphire Reserve to a new metal design. Although I don’t know the exact date when it occurred, I’ve seen a data point as early as Q2 2023. It’s still a hybrid plastic-metal construction, but there’s definitely more metal now.

In fact, while the Amex Platinum Card and Capital One Venture X both weigh 17g, the new Chase Sapphire Reserve weighs 16g (a nice increase from the older design’s 13g, which is also the same weight as the Chase Sapphire Preferred).

So, check out the Chase Sapphire Reserve unboxing to see what the new design is like!
