Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft, and its CEO, Sam Altman, among others.

Musk alleges that they have deviated from the original mission of the company, which aimed to develop artificial intelligence “for the benefit of humanity broadly.”

The lawsuit, submitted to a San Francisco court on Thursday, outlines that in 2015, Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman approached Musk.

Musk agreed to establish a nonprofit laboratory dedicated to advancing artificial general intelligence for the greater good of humanity.

While Musk was a co-founder of OpenAI in 2015, he stepped down from the firm’s board in 2018, expressing concerns about the potential dangers of AI, stating that it could be “potentially more dangerous than nukes,” CNBC reported.
