"Breaking Barriers: Indian Navy's Tarini Sets Sail on Historic Women-Led Expedition"

The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini has started a historic expedition from INS Mandovi in Goa to Port Louis in Mauritius, marking the first trans-oceanic voyage by Indian women in a double-handed mode. Lt Commanders Dilna K. and Roopa A. are participating in this expedition, organized by the Indian Naval Sailing Association, to showcase 'Nari Shakti' in the maritime domain. This journey not only demonstrates the exceptional skills and dedication of women in the Navy but also reflects the nation's commitment to gender equality in traditionally male-dominated fields. The officers have been preparing for this expedition for the last two and a half years, which includes previous sailing experiences. This expedition serves as a crucial part of their preparation for the upcoming circumnavigation of the globe, scheduled to begin in September this year. Commander Abhilash Tomy (retd), a distinguished yachtsman who has circumnavigated the globe twice, flagged off the expedition and has been mentoring the two women officers for the past six months. The Indian Navy views this expedition as a significant step forward in India's maritime activities, showcasing the nation's growing prominence and commitment to diversity and excellence within its ranks.
