HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE FOLDING CHAIR STEP BY STEP
Materials Needed:
Wood boards (typically 1x4 or 1x6)
Wood glue
Screws
Sandpaper
Wood finish/paint
Folding chair hinges
Measuring tape
Saw (circular saw or handsaw)
Drill
Screwdriver
Steps:
1. Design Planning:
Sketch out the design for your folding chair. Consider the seat and backrest dimensions, as well as the overall height and width of the chair.
2. Cutting the Wood:
Measure and cut the wood boards according to your design. You'll need pieces for the seat, backrest, legs, and supports.
Typical dimensions for the seat and backrest are around 18 inches wide and 20 inches tall, but you can adjust based on your preferences.
3. Assembling the Seat and Backrest:
Lay out the pieces for the seat and backrest according to your design.
Use wood glue and screws to attach the pieces together, forming the seat and backrest frames.
4. Attaching the Legs:
Measure and mark the positions for the legs on the underside of the seat frame.
Attach the legs using wood glue and screws. Make sure they are securely fastened and angled properly to provide stability.
5. Adding Supports:
Measure and cut additional pieces of wood to serve as supports between the legs. These will help reinforce the chair's structure.
Attach the supports using wood glue and screws, ensuring they are evenly spaced and aligned.
6. Sanding and Finishing:
Sand all the wood surfaces to smooth out any rough edges and prepare them for finishing.
Apply wood finish or paint to the chair according to your preference. Let it dry completely.
7. Attaching Folding Chair Hinges:
Measure and mark the positions for attaching the folding chair hinges on the seat and backrest frames.
Use screws to securely attach the hinges, ensuring they are aligned properly and allow the chair to fold and unfold smoothly.
8. Testing:
Once everything is assembled and finished, test the folding mechanism to ensure it works smoothly and the chair is stable when unfolded.
9. Final Touches:
Make any necessary adjustments or fixes.
Clean up any excess glue or marks.
Safety Tips:
Wear appropriate safety gear when working with wood, including goggles and gloves.
Use caution when operating power tools.
Work in a well-ventilated area when using wood finish or paint.
With these steps, you can create a simple folding chair that is both functional and easy to store when not in use.
