The snow is quite deep, the bird bath is frozen so we converted it into a temporary feeder for the many birds who are sheltering under the trees. Unfortunately a Starling decided, or was desperate enough, to ignore the warning to stay away and got a fairly good beating from a Northern Flicker. Before you judge the lovely Flicker too harshly realize that the Starling is not indigenous and is in fact an invasive species who are harmful and aggressive with the native birds which is why the Flicker reacts so violently to it yet not the other birds.
