Cops shot a 16-year-old student who had brought a gun to the Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy

On February 19, 2024, a 911 call came to Mesquite Police Dispatcher Center from the school's assistant principal. She told dispatch that there was a student in the building with a gun. Police then arrived within two minutes. Officers then spoke with the student, a 16-year-old boy, for about four minutes. While Officers were talking to the student, he reached for the gun on the floor, at this time officer involved shooting occurred.
The student was struck by gunfire. He was then taken into custody and transported to a local hospital in stable condition after suffering injuries to his lower legs. No other injuries were reported.
