There are 2 species of grisons, the lesser and the greater. They’re similar in appearance with the lesser being smaller. Grisons are slender with short, muscular legs, sharp curved claws, long necks, and short, bushy tails. Their heads are flattened and broad, with short, rounded ears, and dark eyes. The back, head, and the tail, are grizzled grey in color, while the rest of the body is solid black.

Greater grisons are native to Central and northern South America while the lesser grisons are found throughout South America. They’re usually seen near rivers and streams inhabiting both forests and savannas. They are predominantly terrestrial, but can climb trees, swim well, and are good at digging their burrows. When hunting, they press their bodies close to the ground, moving in a zigzag pattern, stopping to look around with their heads raised, sniffing the air. They feed on just about anything, including small mammals, birds, insects, fruit, and vegetables.

The agile grison forages through their territory with cautious curiosity. They symbolize adaptability, resourcefulness, and elusiveness. When you’re looking for determination to get things done, call on the spirit of the grison. Visit our website to learn more and get your free power animal reading.
