20:02:42 From Martha : Humming helps with vagal tone!
20:05:13 From Carla : Hello everyone....when I go outdoors, my son and I take deep breaths....my mind feels so clear
20:06:29 From risa Hyman : Not recording Dr Thomas
20:06:49 From Carla : Replying to "Not recording Dr Tho..."

Hi Risa, I see it on my end
20:16:39 From Martha : I have noted in the past that orchestra conductors tend to live much longer than most people!
20:16:51 From Joel B Peterson : Reacted to "I have noted in the ..." with ❤️
20:16:59 From Dr. Tom Lewis : I recall you stating that…..
20:20:06 From Charles Goulet : Yoga = MBA

Movement, Breath, Awareness
20:26:05 From Martha : Chewing also facilitates the “draining” of toxins from the brain. So, too, chewing gum helps to drain those toxins.
20:26:54 From Martha : What is the impact of wearing “braces” (for your teeth) when you are young?
20:27:34 From Electron Recycler : Reacted to I have noted in the ... with "❤️"
20:29:00 From risa Hyman : Replying to "Not recording Dr Tho..."

Thanks Carla, recording light came on shortly after
20:29:29 From Brenda’s iPhone : Belly
20:29:44 From Carla : Reacted to "Thanks Carla, record..." with 💕
20:29:56 From Carla : Replying to "Not recording Dr Tho..."

@risa Hyman You're welcome!
20:33:18 From Martha : I understand that we “inhale” through the nose. But it’s not so good to “exhale” through the mouth? That too needs tone through the nose?
20:33:40 From Martha : correction – That too needs to be done through the nose?
20:36:37 From Linda E : I’m not sure what we are supposed to be doing with this music?
20:36:59 From Doris Fellenz : Breathing
20:37:06 From JudyMurrayJack : Hearing not seeing
20:37:17 From Dr. Tom Lewis : Breathing in deeply and slowly -
20:37:20 From Linda E : But what is 4:4?
20:37:20 From Nina Roark : what am I to be doing withthis music?
20:37:24 From Dr. Tom Lewis : 5.5 breaths per minute.
20:37:26 From kath : also not seeing picture
20:38:15 From Wendie Wachtel : balance between music and Michelle's voice is wrong; music too loud
20:38:33 From Alison Reece : Does 4:4 mean 4 secs in, 4 secs out with a second for changeover?
20:38:53 From Alison Reece : Oh, question just answered
20:40:08 From Martha : I had never put it together that when you “exhale” you are actually activating your parasympathetic nervous system!!! Very cool! …the longer the “exhalation” the better!
20:41:49 From Martha : And Dr. Tom’s point just now is really important, namely, that when you “exhale,” you can contract your abdominal muscles to “complete” the “exhalation”!! Wow!
20:41:56 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I had never put it t…"
It’s actually exhaling for a longer time than the inhaling done just before… to trigger the parasympathetic
20:42:16 From Martha : Replying to "I had never put it t..."

Thank you, Charles, for clarifying that!
20:43:06 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I had never put it t…"
👍
20:43:28 From Doris Fellenz : I learn to breathe through my abdomen by pressing my finger in my navel.
20:45:09 From Linda E : I’m lost - please state instructions again...
20:46:02 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Start by closing the right nostrel with the right thumb
20:46:13 From Doris Fellenz : I like breathing from one nostril to the other. Good exercise.
20:46:17 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Inhale via the left nostrel
20:46:18 From eileen armes : What to do if one side is almost always partially stoppedup?
20:46:49 From Martha : When your right nostril is more open, brainwave activity is greater in the left brain. By the same token, when your left nostril is more open, brainwave activity is greater in the right brain.
20:47:05 From Alison Reece : When should you breathe like this - for a specified time, or aim for when you’re not expending energy eg exercising, aiming for slower breath when you’re exercising?
20:47:32 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Close the left nostrel with the right index (the right hand is positioned over the nose with the fingers pointing down)
20:47:46 From Linda E : Can you also please put the entire instruction in the chat, please ?
20:48:09 From Martha : When both sides of the brain are stimulated with bilateral alternating stimulation, an aural (ear) thermometer will show equalization of the temperatures in the ears, signifying hemispheric synchronization and optimization of brain functioning.
20:48:14 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Lift the right thumb & exhale via the right nostrel
20:48:51 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
At the end of the exhale, inhale via the right nostrel
20:49:21 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Close the right nostrel with the right thumb
20:49:45 From Linda E : Replying to "I’m lost - please st..."

Thank you, I so appreciate it!
20:50:03 From Lisa V Kusch : Sometimes alternate nostril breathing triggers overbreathing and lowers your CO2, hence the dizziness. It’s important not to force the breath. 💛
20:50:09 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Lift the right index & exhale via the left nostrel
20:50:18 From Martha : To facilitate sleep – Lie on your right side and use the index finger of your right hand to close your right nostril. Breathe slowly through your left nostril, and you will fall fast asleep in no time! …because breathing through your left nostril will activate your parasympathetic nervous system (creating a stress-alleviating state)…
20:51:05 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "I’m lost - please st…"
Repeat the cycle (inhaling via the left nostrel being the first step)
20:51:24 From Steve : Will awaken kundalini
20:52:06 From Alison Reece : Seems to force fast shallow breaths. Is that correct?
20:55:15 From Martha : Yes, “humming,” “gargling,” and “yawning” all relax the body and stimulate the vagus nerve (i.e., increase parasympathetic nervous system activation).
20:55:37 From Doris Fellenz : Yes, I felt that!
20:56:06 From JudyMurrayJack : I can exhale longer when humming
20:56:39 From Pam "east coast" Iowa, US : Reacted to "I can exhale longer ..." with 👍
20:56:45 From Pam "east coast" Iowa, US : Replying to "I can exhale longer ..."

me too
20:56:49 From Lisa V Kusch : Love the humming
20:56:56 From wetrng : To breath from nose at night I place tape over mouth.
20:59:24 From Lisa V Kusch : PNOE does metabolic testing and VO2 max gives great nutrition insights
21:00:35 From Martha : 40 seconds?
21:00:41 From Lisa V Kusch : Reacted to "40 seconds?" with 👌
21:01:07 From Lisa V Kusch : It’s hold to the first feeling of needing to breath.
21:01:08 From Alison Reece : Hold the breath after breathing out? Surely after taking a big breath?
21:01:37 From Doris Fellenz : I can hold my breath 37 seconds only.
21:02:05 From Martha : Is it helpful simply to hold your breath for as long as you can at various points over the course of the day? …whenever you happen to think of it?
21:03:22 From shezz : Have you studied the Buteyko technique ..it has been profound for my healing!
21:03:49 From Lisa V Kusch : Replying to "Hold the breath afte…"
No just a normal breath
21:05:02 From Charles Goulet : Replying to "To facilitate sleep …"
Thanks for the tip , Martha. Much appreciated!
21:05:04 From Alison Reece : Replying to "Hold the breath afte…"
👍 She said breathe in, breathe out, hold breath. Not easy to hold for a long time if you’ve just breathed out.
21:06:01 From Linda E : Can this breathing help normalize CSF flow?
21:06:03 From Martha : …and so wonderfully “accessible” – Thank you, Dr. Michelle!
21:06:19 From Alison Reece : Really helpful, thanks.

21:07:20 From Donna : This was very helpful and something I've thought about recently, i.e., to work on breathing. Thank you, Dr. Gamble.
21:09:03 From Alison Reece : Holding the breath is an example of hormesis isn’t it? How often, how long?
21:09:43 From Joel B Peterson : Excellent Class, and thank you all for this! ❤️🙏💪😇
21:10:00 From Dr. Tom Lewis To JudyMurrayJack(privately) : So great to have you on today.
21:10:14 From JudyMurrayJack To Dr. Tom Lewis(privately) : Glad I came
21:10:20 From Martha : Alison – You are making a great point about “holding the breath” as a “hormetic (optimal) stressor”! 🙂
21:10:27 From Charles Goulet : Exhaling through puckered lips creates a back pressure in the lungs that gently expand the alveoli
21:11:10 From Donna : Well said, Dr. Carter. Thank you.
21:11:38 From JudyMurrayJack : Yes, thanks for the reminder, Dr Lewis
21:11:46 From Martha : Charles – Yes, I had certainly been taught that exhaling through “puckered lips” would indeed be a good thing for the lungs!
21:11:47 From JudyMurrayJack : And Dr Carter
21:12:03 From Alison Reece : Imagine how face masks messed breathing up, not just breathing in CO2
21:12:20 From Linda Anderson : Breathwork changed my life in the 80's... a shaman MD helped
21:12:32 From Doris Fellenz : The Lungs—A Marvel of Design
YOU can survive without food for weeks. You can live without water for days. But if you hold your breath, severe discomfort sets in after mere seconds. And just four minutes of oxygen deprivation can cause brain damage and death. Yes, oxygen is the prime need of the human body!
You probably do not have much control over the quality of the air you breathe. Nonetheless, you need air, and you need it now! How do you survive when the air is too cold or too hot or too dry or too dirty? How do you extract life-sustaining oxygen from such air, and how does the oxygen reach every part of your body? How do you rid your body of carbon dioxide, a gas? All of it happens thanks to your marvelously designed lungs.
21:13:09 From Martha : Reacted to "The Lungs—A Marvel o..." with 👏
21:14:39 From Carla : Thanks for that Dr. Carter! That was me late last year; I chose happiness and a peace of mind for my son and I. ENOUGH was ENOUGH!
21:16:04 From Carla : There's no money attached!
21:16:05 From Lisa V Kusch : Bahahahaha
21:16:42 From Carla : Hi Sophie!
