1 Samual 4 The Philistines Capture the Ark

Chapter 4:
Israel fights against the Philistines, suffering a great defeat. Believing the Ark of the Covenant will save them, the Israelites bring it from Shiloh to the battlefield, but the Philistines capture it, killing Eli's sons. Upon hearing the news of the Ark's capture and his sons' deaths, Eli falls back, breaks his neck, and dies. Phinehas' wife dies in childbirth, naming the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel," referring to the loss of the Ark.
