Saint Victor of Marseilles, also known as Saint Victor of Milan or Saint Victor the Moor, was born in Mauretania (modern-day Morocco) in North Africa. He was a soldier in the Roman army during the reign of the Emperor Maximian.

According to tradition, Victor was a member of the Theban Legion, a group of Christian soldiers who were martyred for their faith in Switzerland. However, there is some debate among historians about his exact identity and whether he belonged to the Theban Legion or not.

Victor's martyrdom occurred in the city of Marseilles (modern-day France) during the reign of Emperor Maximian. He refused to participate in the Roman pagan rituals and sacrifices, declaring his allegiance to Christianity. As a result, Victor was arrested, tortured, and ultimately executed for his refusal to renounce his faith.
