Human Prion Disease Was Once Considered An "Rare" Abnormal Infectious Disease - Not Anymore

Variant CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) is mad cow disease and has very serious health effects on humans once infected. The longest living CJD registered patient survived 16 years. Most die within 2 years. Human prion disease was once considered an "rare" abnormal infectious disease, but not anymore.

Important to note is that the study does not differentiate between variant based or sporadic CJD.
