Yuri Bezmenov worked for a Soviet disinformation agency called Novosti Press Agency, which was controlled by the KGB. Novosti used propaganda to mislead Western and Third World countries, with the goal of promoting Soviet interests. Despite being seen as somewhat propagandist, Novosti was treated as a legitimate source of news and opinion by Western journalists and newspapers. Novosti publications, such as Soviet Life magazine, were widely available and treated as honest publications. Bezmenov's revelations shed light on the extent of Novosti's collaboration with the KGB in spreading disinformation.
