Former Ben Davis coach delivers powerful message to lawmakers as team is honored for Championship
Ben Davis' football team was honored at the Indiana House of Representatives on Monday, but it was a speech by their former head coach that will be the memorable point of the day. The team won the 6A Championship three months ago with a 63-14 win over Penn. Former Head Coach Mike Kirschner is known for his speeches, and he didn't pass up the chance to deliver one at the statehouse when his players were being honored as the state champions. Both Ben Davis and Warren Central had a tough year on and off the field, with players from both teams being killed in shootings last summer. Warren Central's Dijon Anderson was killed in a west side shooting and Ben Davis' Rondell Allen was killed in a separate shooting. With those shootings and the others in the Indianapolis community on his mind, Mike Kirschner took the opportunity to speak out as his team was being honored.
