The first incident we see in this section of text took place in Gennesaret, and the trouble was centered around a question of Jewish ritual. A question or event centered on the traditions of man. And that is the overall theme of this section of the text. In this incident, which is concerned with not whether you should wash your hands before a meal, but how to wash the hands. Thus, we see the continuing clash between Yeshua and religion. What the Pharisees had was a severe case of religion, and they had it bad, but what Yeshua had was of course reality and truth.
