Episode 9 - Did the CIA Back the 60's Music Scene?

In this episode I just scratch the surface of the book Weird Scenes Inside The Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & The Dark Heart Of The Hippie Dream, by David McGowan, released in 2014.

I introduce the idea that the entire Hippie Counter Culture was orchestrated by the CIA to drive a wedge into what at the time was a strong Traditional Culture in America. By making all things progressive & liberal "cool", they were able to persuade the young baby boomers that all of the old ways that came before them were wrong. That they had all the answers and therefore should now be the center of culture.

In doing so, they have severely weakened Traditional Culture, and fast forward 50 years we seem to be living in their world, the hippie Counter Culture now seems to be the mainstream, and the once central Traditional Culture now seems to be the fringe, the marginalized, the new Counter Culture.

Did the CIA orchestrate this for the express purpose of driving Traditional Culture to the fringes of society? It's hard to argue when you discover all of the many connections to the Military Intelligence Complex that many of the early 60's counter culture music pioneers had.
