Studios Bet BIG on Sequels No One Asked For

This last week it was reported two sequels to wildly successful movies have multi hundred-million-dollar budgets.

The budget for Gladiator 2, Ridley Scott’s follow-up to his Oscar winning 2000 epic, has gone out of control. It was reported to be close to $310 million when the initial budget was $165 million. Todd Phillips’s Joker sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga costs $200 million while the previous movie in the franchise was made for closer to $60 million.
