A dramatic rescue was caught on police body camera after a crash Thursday morning in Sedalia.

The Sedalia Police Department shared the video on their Facebook page.

In a release, they said there was a single-car crash Thursday at 3:53 am near East Broadway and South Brown Avenue.

A car hit a telephone pole and knocked down live power lines.

The vehicle then came to a rest in the eastbound lanes of Broadway after hitting two trees.

The engine compartment then was engulfed in flames.

When officers got to the scene, they found someone trying to put out the engine fire.

Sedalia Police Commander Michael Elwood had to force the driver’s side open to reach the unconscious driver.

Elwood had to cut out two airbags to get to the woman.

Commander Elwood and Sedalia Police Officer Alex Stevenson carried the driver to safety.

The Sedalia Fire Department arrived shortly after and put the fire out.

Pettis County Ambulance crews took the 23-year-old, from Grain Valley, MO, to the hospital.
