Bundesluftwaffe, removed 20 MiG-29 and four MiG-29UB fighters (modernized to NATO standards and designated MiG-29G/GT) from service, it was decided to "sell" these planes to Poland at the symbolic price of one euro. In September 2003, the first ex-German and ex-DDR MiG-29 arrived in Poland.

Deliveries of aircraft from Germany were made in four batches and were completed on 8 August 2004. Since the German MiG-29s had a significantly longer flight time than the Polish ones they were immediately sent to the Air Force's aircraft repair plant in Bydgoszcz for defect detection. As a result, only four fighters were declared fit for service without repair work. Subsequently, after repairs, 12 MiG-29G and two MiG-29GT were admitted to service in the Polish Air Force, while two MiG-29G and one MiG-29GT were decommissioned. The MiG-29G/GTs entered service at the 41st IAP in Malbork (east of Gdańsk, near the border with Russia) in October 2006; finally, in April last year, upon authorization from the German government, these specific fighters were sent to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Currently the Polish Air Force has 30 MiG-29 aircraft (24 single-seaters and six two-seaters), which were in service with two squadrons (in Minsk Mazowiecki and in Malbork).
