Fears Putin hit squad at large in Spain after defected pilot found dead

The Russian pilot Maxim Kuzminov, who defected to Ukraine in 2023, was found shot dead in Spain. Kuzminov had been living in Spain with a Ukrainian passport under a different name. He was reportedly riddled with bullets and run over by his attackers' car. The Russian spy chief labeled him a "traitor" and "moral corpse," while Ukrainian officials confirmed his death but did not provide details on the cause. Spanish investigators were searching for two suspects connected to his murder. Ukraine's military intelligence spokesman, Andriy Yusov, stated that Kuzminov's defection was a principled ideological decision, condemning the Russian war against Ukraine.
