AGAIN, FLASHBACK: Senator Biden promoted the crime bill that led to the incarceration of thousands of Americans. He argued that anyone caught with crack cocaine should be jailed and their possessions seized by the government. Nowadays, he defends his son, Hunter Biden (on the right), who struggles with addiction.
Despite not paying taxes, illegally owning a gun, possessing drugs, and profiting from adversaries of the U.S., Hunter's actions are often deemed acceptable. Democrats defend him on TV, arguing he faces criticism because his father loves him. They portray him as the good guy, in contrast to those imprisoned due to the bill his father backed, whose lives were devastated.
The legislation in question is the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. As the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at the time, Biden played a key role in its development and promotion.
This issue transcends Biden alone. It reflects a broader tendency: we advocate for laws strongly when they affect others but seek to defend our loved ones when those same laws apply to them. This phenomenon is known as the law of unintended consequences.
