On January 19, 2024, officers assigned to the Zone 3 Crime Suppression Unit stopped a vehicle on I-20 near Glenwood Ave. SE for a window tint violation.

During the stop, when officers informed the suspect he was going to be detained due to not having a driver’s license on his person, the suspect fled from the traffic stop. Shortly after fleeing, the suspect wrecked his vehicle, abandoned it in the roadway, and ran from the scene.

Officers would ultimately lose sight of the suspect, and he would elude arrest. Further investigation by the officers revealed the vehicle had been stolen out of Walnut Creek in December. Through their investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect and secure multiple warrants for his arrest.

On February 17, 2024, Atlanta Police received information that the suspect would be arriving at a flight from Miami, FL. After confirming the suspect was on the flight, the same officers whom the suspect had originally fled from, board the plane and detained the suspect.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Dorian Burley. Mr. Burley was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Obstruction, Possession of Marijuana Less than an Ounce, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device, and Illegal Window Tint.
