American ballerina Ksenia Karelina is detained for ‘high treason’ in Russia

The Federal Security Service, known for its secrecy, has apprehended a dual Russian-American ballerina on charges of treason, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.

Footage released by a Russian news agency depicts 32-year-old Ksenia Karelina being escorted into a courtroom wearing handcuffs and a blindfold over her eyes. The timing of the video remains unclear.

Originally a resident of Los Angeles, Karelina obtained US citizenship in 2021 and frequently shared photos on her social media showcasing her life in the United States.

Her arrest coincided with Vladimir Putin’s controversial interview with Tucker Carlson in January, taking place outside a Yekaterinburg movie theater. Initial charges were related to swearing offenses.

Yekaterinburg, the largest city in the Ural region, was also the location where Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich was arrested on espionage charges almost a year ago, the Daily Mail reported.
