Satellite images taken between November 22 last year and January 15 this year and verified by Al Jazeera, show that the Egyptian authorities have been tightening the border security by the Gaza Strip by establishing several checkpoints.

On November 23, the Egyptian authorities began to complete the construction of an old earthen berm parallel to the border, approximately 200 metres (219 yards) away from the separating border fence.

Pictures taken on December 3 show that the authorities had completed the remaining part of the berm, 3.5km (2.2 miles) long, bringing the total length of the berm to 14km (8.7 miles) along the entire sector border.

Pictures from November 22 also show that construction of a new concrete wall along the old wall had begun.

On January 15, pictures showed that the machinery had finished building the wall reaching a length of approximately 14km (8.7 miles).
