Sri Lanka was put to bat first in the first T20I. Sri Lanka managed to put up a competitive total of 160 runs on the board thanks to Hasaranga's impressive 67 run knock. Afghanistan later put up a brilliant fight with Ibrahim Zadran leading the batting with an unbeaten 67. However, Afghanistan could not get over the line and Sri Lanka won by 4 runs.
