Did you know that I am an eyewitness of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York City? It’s true. I was one of those hundreds of thousands of people you saw on tv fleeing downtown on foot. On that morning, my roommate at the time said something to the effect of the attacks being against “American hubris.” I didn’t understand what he meant at the time, and I didn’t fully agree with the sentiment when I came to understand it, but he did have at least one thing right: the downfall of hubris is inevitable, because hubris itself leads to insanity, and insanity cannot survive for long. Today on Something’s Happening Here, we look to ancient Babylon to establish a pattern that may just be unfolding in front of our eyes in 2024, in the form of an old man and an angry press conference.
