The three theme are these:
Lean on God’s Power -
Learn from God’s Pain
Rest in God’s Plan.
Philippians 3:1 “My brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is not trouble for me to write the same things to you again.”
Philippians 3:2 ”Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh — though I myself have reasons for such confidence.”
People in Philippi:
Jewish community
Gentiles community
Judaizer’s community
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been said, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.”
WHEN YOU ADD ANYTHING TO THE GOSPEL YOU LOSE THE GOSPEL
Philippians 3:7-8 - “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”
Philippians 3:10 - “I want to know Christ — yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.”
“This life in light of eternity will be nothing more than a bad night in a cheap hotel.”
Mother Teresa
Romans 8:18 - “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Philippians 3:12-14 - “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:20 - “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 12:2 - “Do not conform to the patter of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
C.S. Lewis…”If you read history, you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.”
