Narcissists dread being exposed in the same way a vampire dreads being pierced by the sun's rays. That sunlight is all it takes to reduce the predatory vampire to a smoldering pile of ashes.

"If there's one thing real vampires seem to have in common, it is their reluctance to tell the world about who, and what, they are."

Throughout history, stories, folktales, and myths about the supernatural vampire can be found. The myth of the vampire is so pervasive in fact, that some psychologists have deemed the vampire an "archetype," or an "intrapsychic psychological structure grounded in the collective unconscious."

While the origins of the myths and folklore about the vampire are vague, there is a popular theory linking rabies to stories of vampirism, and the medical theory is indeed an interesting one. I think however another, more obvious explanation, is the classical narcissist.
