Noah Webster (the guy from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

While not considered by many to be a Founding Father, I think he is up there in importance with them. He educated generations of Americans with his blue-backed speller and was eventually considered the "Father of American Scholarship and Education."

He was young during the Revolution (he graduated from Yale in 1778), but was a political activist and thinker his whole life and served as a Connecticut State Representative.

He was instrumental in the founding the Connecticut Society for the Abolition of Slavery.

Last but certainaly not least, he was a fervent Christian and saw the Bible as the foundation for American society and Education. (Calvinistic Orthodoxy was his particular flavor)
