Are Starmer’s Labour now the party of the IDF and not just Israel?

Right, so I made passing reference to this piece of news in my video covering the Wellingborough and Kingswood by-elections, because it basically broke later in the day and that video had basically already been written, but this is really serious in light of Starmer’s Labour and it’s stance on Israel and Gaza, that one of their newly elected MPs is actually married to a former member of the Israeli Defence Force. There will be some who will say it is antisemitic to point to this as a reason the candidate, Damien Egan, shouldn’t have been selected, which would be a nonsense, there will be others who will point to this in light of the events in Gaza right now and shrug and say it is merely bad optics, but it is more than that too when so many are calling for sanctions and a parliamentarian in a position to make laws on such matters can now clearly be seen to at least potentially be compromised. Worst of all I think though is that you couldn’t have a better fit in Starmer’s Labour and it’s position on Israel than someone like Damien Egan, because if you can be married to a former IDF solider, what does that say about his position on Zionism, Israel and the atrocities going on now and how would you likely vote in terms of Israel. When state loyalty is already being questioned of many MPs, would this new guy vote for their benefit or ours?
Right, so Labour celebrated winning the seat of Kingswood from the Tories yesterday by managing to lose over 5,000 votes, the Tories simply managed to lose a lot more as their voters basically stayed home. But it soon came out that the Kingswood candidate, Damien Egan, was married to an Israeli, Yossi Felberbaum, who is a former IDF solider, having apparently ended his time with the IDF in 2017, however a ‘spotlight of the week’ post by Birthright Israel Excel, a body based in the United States to nobody’s surprise, who organise 10 day heritage trips for young Jewish people to Israel, said a lot about Felberbaum. It reads:
‘Meet Yossi Felberbaum, an Israeli peer from the class of 2013. Yossi was born and raised in Kiryat Yam, a town just a few miles north of Haifa. Yossi graduated from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev with a BSc in Software Engineering and recently completed his MSc in Computer Science in IDC Herzliya. After six years of service in the Israeli Defence Forces, he will finish his duty this October. Yossi plays an important role on the Israeli community board as a liaison between Excel and the IDF, assisting with the recruitment of 8200 unit soldiers as Israeli Peers. He looks forward to travelling to Europe and the United States after he finishes his service in the IDF and will pursue a career abroad in software engineering. Good luck and thank you for everything you do, Yossi!’
So he was formerly IDF and was on the Israeli community board recruiting 8200 unit soldiers.Show more
