Polar Day and Night A Journey Through

The phenomenon of having six months of continuous daylight followed by six months of continuous darkness is known as the polar day and polar night, and it occurs near the Earth's polar regions. One of the countries where this phenomenon occurs is Norway, specifically in the northernmost regions such as Svalbard, an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. In places like Longyearbyen, the largest settlement on Svalbard, the sun remains above the horizon for about six months from late April to late August, experiencing the midnight sun. Conversely, from late October to late February, the region goes through polar night, with the sun not rising above the horizon during that period. This unique natural occurrence is a result of the Earth's axial tilt and its orbit around the sun. Other polar regions, such as parts of Sweden, Finland, Russia, Canada, and Alaska, also experience similar phenomena.
